The Need

Early childhood education is increasingly influenced by digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence. AI is already shaping how learning content is created, how schools are managed, and how children interact with digital environments. However, many early childhood educators, school leaders, and parents are not adequately prepared to understand or use these technologies in a safe and meaningful way.

There is a clear gap between the rapid development of AI tools and the practical knowledge available to those working in early childhood education. Teachers often lack structured training on AI-driven learning approaches, while school administrators need guidance on how AI can support everyday management tasks. At the same time, parents are seeking reliable information on digital safety and responsible AI use to better support their children at home.

DigitalECEC2 responds directly to this gap. The project recognises that early childhood education needs tailored, age-appropriate, and ethical AI solutions. Rather than introducing technology for its own sake, DigitalECEC2 focuses on helping educators and families understand how AI can support learning, inclusion, well-being, and quality education, while respecting the developmental needs of young children.

The Aim

The aim of DigitalECEC2 is to support early childhood education in navigating digital transformation with confidence, clarity, and care. The project seeks to make Artificial Intelligence approachable and useful for teachers, school leaders, and parents, without compromising the child-centred nature of early learning.

DigitalECEC2 promotes the thoughtful integration of AI into early childhood settings, ensuring that technology supports pedagogical goals, enhances learning experiences, and simplifies school processes. A strong emphasis is placed on ethical use, digital well-being, and inclusiveness, so that AI becomes a positive tool rather than a source of concern or inequality.

By combining training, practical tools, and clear guidance, the project aims to create a balanced approach to AI in early childhood education—one that empowers educators, engages families, and places children’s development at the heart of every digital decision.

The Objectives

DigitalECEC2 pursues a set of clear and interconnected objectives that respond to real needs in early childhood education:
